SaveAfricaNow Inc. officially began in April 2007 in the US, and in May, 2007 in Canada.
But the movement began as a result of a dream on June 30, 2006 that David Youngren had while he was in the city of Shinyanga, Tanzania. The dream compelled him to take action and empower orphans, who had lost parents due to AIDS, to become the future leaders who would bring about change in Africa including an end to poverty. SaveAfricaNow Inc. is governed by a board of directors (David Youngren - Chair, Nick Kooman – Secretary, Roy Bilec – Treasurer, and directors: Joseph Romita, Paul Smit, and Reis James.) David Youngren is the founder and the President of the corporation.
SaveAfricaNow Inc. is also a registered NGO in Tanzania with a board of directors (David Youngren – Chair, Elias Shija – Vice-Chair, Jeremiah Bayaga – Secretary, Alice Chapra – Treasurer, plus all the board members listed above)
SaveAfricaNow plans to continue to expand as legal entities in several nations, including countries in Europe. As it grows, it will be governed by national boards, but will keep its uniformity through an international executive board.
SaveAfricaNow Inc. in both the United States and Canada is continually looking for new progressive board members, who can help make a difference for orphans in Africa. SaveAfricaNow Inc. has several unique programs in Africa including Child Sponsorship, Salama Project, Adopt-a-House, Adopt-a-Business, Seed of Greatness and the Task Force volunteer experience. It also has two awareness programs – Revolution and My Name is Someone.
Approximately 84% of funds donated goes toward our programs, while 16% is spent on administration and fundraising. When funds are designated for a specific program, 84% of those funds go toward that program. If funds are not designated toward a particular program, it is directed to the general fund and spent on the programs that need it the most at the time.
SaveAfricaNow Inc. also receives income from non-donation related sources such as sales and corporate sponsorship of events. This income goes to help bring awareness.
SaveAfricaNow Inc. is committed to empowering orphans in Africa, and is continually looking for ways to reduce administrative costs in order to help more children.
Is SaveAfricaNow Inc. a religious or a political organization?
SaveAfricaNow has no political agenda, nor does it seek to influence governments or politics. Neither is it a religious organization, nor is it linked to any religious denomination. It operates as a humanitarian organization to empower orphans.
It should be noted some of the leaders within SaveAfricaNow Inc. are affiliated with faith communities. David Youngren has for years been involved with churches and ministries, and has spearheaded several faith initiatives. David acknowledges the role of faith in his decision to start SaveAfricaNow. “In my situation, there is no question that my faith in Christ propelled me to love the people of Africa by seeking to end poverty and empower orphans. But everyone involved with our movement had a different journey that led them to take action. Our effort is not religious. It is an endeavor of hope for Africa.”
SaveAfricaNow Inc. sole purpose is to serve the innocent children in Africa who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. It works in partnership with individuals, schools, businesses, faith communities, government agencies, foundations, and other community groups to fulfill its mission.
